Stewardship
It's not about 'us' - in the grand scheme of things, we must be willing to admit that we are only on this planet for a very short time. The land, plants, resources, and animals may be technically 'ours' (for the time being) but in reality, we really are only given care of these during our short lifetime; all of these existed before us and will exsist after us, providing we have done our task well. It's up to us to leave 'something' to pass on to future generations.
Looking at our operation in this perspective has caused us to analyze, modify, and redirect our focus.
Emphasizing Stewardship has caused us to focus more on long term planning and goals. It is much less about the production results (while still important) and more about the 'big picture' and how is what we are doing affecting our resources.
OK, here it is: we messed up; we made mistakes - we didn't know any better, we followed 'the crowd'. We can't change the past, but we can move forward to make the future better. We are a Stewardship work in process. We are 'listening' and we are trying.
